W Hotels is expanding their connection to the music industry with their very own label called W Records. Over the next year, four emerging artists will record albums and W Records will help them developed into stars.

W Records is another tool that the luxury hotel brand is using to attract clients. Beyond having a library of vinyl records for guests to choose from, W Hotels are taking their knowledge of music and supporting the careers of artists. They plan on helping artists record, mix, master, produce videos, and even with distribution. The music from this new label will be produced at W Sound Suites, the hotel’s recording studios located in Los Angeles, Seattle, Barcelona, and Bali. Along with digital albums, W Records will produce 500 limited-edition vinyl copies of exclusive tracks. Each artist will have the chance to perform at the hotel brand’s W Wake Up Call music festivals. What this means for these emerging artists is exposure to the 110 million members of Marriott, the W Hotel’s parent company.

As Anthony Ingham, the Global Brand Leader for W Hotels Worldwide, said in a press release in April of 2017, “The W brand has long been synonymous with music, from the live music programming in our buzzing Living Rooms to musicians choosing to stay with us while on tour.  The W Sound Suite provides the perfect professional environment for when inspiration strikes – any time, day or night, complemented by 24 hour room service, of course!”

W Hotels are doing two things: They are creating another point of contact between the brand and their members by using an existing affinity for music. This deepens the relationship between the brand and their guests, making the bond stronger. W are also strengthening their relationship to the music industry, by becoming part of it in a big way. Currently, they have music directors who are great at finding new and innovative music to play in their hotels. But with W Records, they will not only find new artists, but help emerging artists get their start. None of this is new for W Hotels, who have created an ecosystem of verticals for their global community of design savvy individuals. This new holistic approach is what these emerging artists will benefit from.

“W Records is, undoubtedly, a natural next step for W and music. It represents a complete 360-degree approach to our innovative music programming – one in which we support emerging talent, provide them a place to record, distribute their music and act as a live venue. We’ve accomplished each of these tasks in increments before, but now we can do it all.”

The first artist that W Records is launching is Amber Mark, an R&B singer whose first two tracks will be available on 500 limited-edition vinyl copies. Check out some of the photos below of the W Sound Suites in Bali and Seattle, as well as the launch of W Records earlier this month in New York when Amber Mark performed.

Virgin Voyages has just released new renderings for their Tom Dixon-designed, rock-and-roll inspired suites aboard Scarlet Lady, a new cruise ship expected to set sail in 2020 in the Caribbean. It is the first of four ships that Virgin Voyages is currently constructing in Italy. On Scarlet Lady, there will be 78 RockStar suites which express a “rebellious luxe to life at sea,” according to Dixon. The ship will carry 2,770 passengers. Think of Scarlet Lady as having the premium luxury finishes of a yacht, but on the scale of a cruise ship. It will be a true party ship for adults only, so nothing will be tamed for the sake of kids.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages

Each RockStar suite will have terrazzo flooring, European king beds, marble bathrooms tiling, a full bar, a cocktail lounge, and a music room with electric guitars and an amplifier. In other parts of the suite, framed posters of the legendary musicians hang on the walls, as well as a gold-plated vinyl record player, and a collection of classic records. As we’ve shown in a previous post, the presence of vinyl collections and record players in hotel rooms and amenity spaces has become increasingly popular in luxury tourism.

Virgin Voyages

“Virgin has always avoided stuffy formalities and brought a lot of excitement and a bit of rebelliousness to our customer experiences,” explained Sir Richard Branson in a recent article. As we’ve come to expect from any of Branson’s Virgin ventures, from airlines, to music, to hyperloops, nothing is done the typical way. They are always pushing the boundaries. Other cruise operators thought that they had set the bar for the 21st century cruise experience compared to the first 100 years of luxury cruising, but Virgin Voyages is a few levels above that.

Cassette tapes had their time, but they are from the past,

And CDs ruled for a while, but came and went so fast,

But who would have thought, that vinyl would last.

LUNO did, and that’s why our record consoles are a blast.

Order one today, at iamluno.com.

With travel slowly coming back, people who have been stuck indoors for a couple months are thinking about where to go for vacation. As countries open back up, allowing outsiders to come in without a 14-day quarantine, more people will have the urge to travel. Well wherever in the world you are, if you’re allowed to visit Dubai you might want to stay at the Opus Studio, the city’s newest hotel. Opus Studio, which is part of Meliá Hotels International, and it opened in March 2020.

This hotel in the fashionable design/shopping Burj Khalifa district, was designed by the late architect,  Zaha Hadid. It is the only hotel where she designed the architecture and the interior design. Of the building, the firm which still carries her name, describes the architecture of the hotel as a “balance between solid and void, opaque and transparent, interior and exterior.”

The building is in the form of a glass cube with an irregular void at the center, with an atrium at the ground floor and 3-level bridge at the top. It’s a very fluid design, with lots of curves. Special glass with UV coating keep the desert sunlight from making the interiors too hot.

Most of the furniture in the hotel was designed by Zaha Hadid. The 19  two-and-three-bedroom suites have a work-play functionality. There are 74 other regular rooms fitted with Bose sound system and the most futuristic furniture that you’ve ever seen. The hotel also includes restaurants, bars, and office space meeting rooms. And then there is a gym with the highest caliber of equipment that you’ll find on the market called the Technogym’s Biocircuit where you can input your biometrics and get a personalized workout programmed for you. You can go to their website to see how they are operating during the pandemic. As most hotels that have re-opened are doing, they have enhanced the cleaning and hygiene methods that they use. Bon Voyage!

Take a look at some photos below, but first remember:

When the world changes around you,

Chilling with loved ones is precious.
