The Karma Revero: A Car That’s Not for Everybody | LUNO

Karma Revero

The Karma Revero is a mean looking car that nobody should mess with if they aren’t serious about cars. Even on Karma’s website, the company is clear about who should buy the Revero: “We are not for everybody, and never will be. No one needs a product like this. We exist for those who have to have one.”

Founded in 2014, Karma, headquartered in Irvine, California, is a car making startup designing luxury performance cars as good as the traditional luxury car makers. They’ve brought automobile assembly to Southern California for the first time in decades. Although the engineering is done in Troy, Michigan, Karma’s manufacturing facility is in Moreno Valley, California.

Karma is shaking up the car industry with the Revero. It’s an extended-range electric vehicle, with an aluminum frame, and a muscular look. With dual electric motors to provide plenty of torque, and 6 Piston calipers and regenerative breaking to preserve the brakes, the Revero looks imposing, but offers a smooth ride. A lithium-ion battery, with a 24 minute charge time, gives the Revero a total range of 300 miles. For Karma, what should attract people to buying a Revero is the comfort level, not its technical stats. Whereas the exterior has a strapping, menacing look, the interior’s unlacquered reclaimed wood trim, jewel detailing, leather seats, makes it smooth and diplomatic.

What makes the Revero unique, and Karma different, compared to the rest of the car industry, is one key feature and a personal touch on each car. In an industry first, the Revero has a solar roof which powers the car with an output of 200w. As it says on Karma’s site, “Leave your car at the airport for a week and drive home on the power of the sun.” Then, what differentiates Karma from other car makers is that each vehicle is slightly unique, and that uniqueness is achieved by more than just a different vehicle identification number. The badges on both the front and the back of the car are hand-painted, which Karma’s says we should, “consider it a small but symbolic statement about craftsmanship and individuality.”
